Fizzy drinks impact your health and wealth

Some say that Elvis died because of his daily consumption of coke.

Soft drinks are proven to be addictive (even the diet brands) ....moving on from the physical health cost and risk they are also rather a drain on our financial health. An average fizzy drink costs 8.00 AED and people that drink regularly may consume as much as 1.5 litres per day at a cost of 16.00 AED.

Instead of spending 8.00 AED per day on fizzy drinks imagine saving that 8.00 AED. Over 365 days you will have saved nearly 3,000.00 AED in addition to your overall health and any possible medical costs.

Fizzy drink may quench our thirst but they do not quench our appetite - replace the fizzy drink with a fresh fruit juice or vegetable juice at half the daily cost and not only will you be refreshed but also 'fed'... Fruit and vegetable juices greatly reduce our appetite, increase our well being and support our finances....

Take a look at the Infograph and see exactly how fizzy drinks impact your health and also think about the impact on your wealth....

A new detailed study by Bangor University and published in the European Journal of Nutrition, reported that soft drinks actually alter metabolism, so that our muscles use sugar for energy instead of burning fat. It seems that exposure to liquid sugar causes genes in our muscles to change their behaviour, perhaps permanently.

Not only do we pile on weight, but our metabolism becomes less efficient and less able to cope with rises in blood sugar, say the researchers.

This, in turn, increases the risk of type 2 diabetes.

‘Having seen all the medical evidence, I don’t touch soft drinks now,’ says Dr Hans-Peter Kubis, a biological scientist and expert in exercise nutrition who led the research. He also said: 'I think drinks with added sugar are, frankly, evil.’
